Season Starter 1/24/2010 05:11 PM 6542 | Season starting Later -- Why ? A few years ago the season started 2nd week of August. Last year and again this year the season is starting 3rd week of August. Why so late ?
I don't feel that is enough time for the boys to get ready for games - especially kids playing for their first year. Can we move the first game back to match? Is it possible to change to start date? Can we move the dates to give th ekids more time to get ready.

MMRFL President - J Brown 1/27/2010 08:05 PM 6547 | Re: Season starting Later -- Why ? So let me try to clarify how the key season dates are currently set for the MMRFL -- First game is currently set as first Saturday immediate after Labor Day (after school is in session). With 7 weeks of games we finish our games before MHSAA playoff games to avoid conflicts. -- All other dates are based off first game day. -- First day of practice is set for Monday 3 weeks prior to Monday preceding fist game. This gives 4 weeks of practice prior to first game {1 week of conditioning followed by 3 weeks of contact practice}, in alignment with typical preseason length for Jr High programs per MHSAA guidelines.
With Labor Day being he first Monday of September -- that has made Labor day in the 2nd week of September and moved our start date back. But our available days of practice have not changed.
We do have the flexibility to move the dates but we need to be done before Varsity Playoff’s, or risk losing fields. At the same time most people have voiced a desire to preserve as much summer vacation as possible and/or to not start first games before school starts back up. |
