Concerned Parent 7/21/2010 12:53 PM 7169 | "Conditioning camp" or practice? I heard thru the grapevine that Lake Fenton has been running some "youth football" camps runnning now up til the offical start date. I'm almost certain that these kids are the same ones you'll see on the football field with the same coaches in August. Is this legal? I don't think that this fair to my team and child or fair to those that obeying the start dates posted by the MMRFL. |
Lori Z 7/22/2010 08:01 AM 7179 | Re: "Conditioning camp" or practice? I appreciate your concern, as it a valid one. We at Lake Fenton did do our homework last year before we started this program, and were VERY careful not to violate any rules or regulations of the MMRFL & MHSAA. It IS a legal "camp", as we opened this opportunity for ALL athletes in our community (including their parents)regardless of sport or age!! There ARE quite a few football players and cheerleaders, as they are familiar with the leaders of this camp, however I can assure you it is NOT football specific. We at Lake Fenton are committed to teaching our youth not only football, but are very concerned with other important aspects of life such as character and integrity, to health and safety, as well as physical fitness and nutrition. I would like to encourage you to participate if you are interested. I am certain that we can pro-rate this program since you have already missed the first 2 weeks. Or, come out and see what we are doing; perhaps it is something your program would like to explore as well..... Please contact me if you wish- or you have any other questions or concerns. Thank you. Concerned Parent 7/22/2010 09:23 AM 7181 | Re: "Conditioning camp" or practice? Provided this is all legal with the MMRFL rules and regulations, I would possibly be interested in having both my son and daughter participate (football and cheerleading). I also have a child playing soccer, and if this is open to all athletes, would he be allowed to participate? What type of athletic training are you providing? Being that you said this is not an age specific camp and open to ALL athletes in your community, what ages are allowed? Are parents able to stay and watch? Is there a place where I can go and sign my children up at, and if so, how much would it cost pro-rated? Are there specific days and times? Once I hear more specifics, I will let our league know, as their might be some other children interested. |
LFYF Football 7/22/2010 06:21 PM 7185 | Re: "Conditioning camp" or practice? Dear "Concerned Parent"
I would like to mimic the response from the LFYF President. Also, last year, I gave the MMRFL a copy of the agenda and format of the Program, and was cleared to run this Program.
This Program is being contracted out by the ProFitness Group of Fenton, MI. This company employees Certified & Insured Personal Trainers. What is being taught is the importance of eating right, proper hydration, taking care of your body, and General Conditioning. In NO WAY are we utilizing any football drills or plays. We are doing a LOT of stretching, running, and agility drills. We are working are way up to flipping tires, dragging weighted sleds, and carrying weighted objects.
We have almost 100 kids (including our Football Program, Cheerleaders, soccer, and siblings) & about 20 parents involved in this GREAT Program. If you're interested, the Program fee is $100 per participant (with siblings & parents being FREE). It runs Mondays & Wednesdays from 5:30-6:30 (finishing on August 11th) at the LFHS Football Field. ANYONE else wishing to learn how to set-up, run, or information on conducting a similar Program for your area is encouraged to contact me.
We will be spotlighted in the TriCounty Times for our efforts in getting our Community to "Living a Healthy Lifestyle" and fighting childhood obesity. We currently have a Grant Writer employed to seek Federal Funds through Michelle Obama's "Fighting Childhood Obesity" Program effort to operate this Program locally.
Thank you- Ken Hill (Lake Fenton Football Director) |
